ENTER partners identify priorities for sharing environmental data

1 October 2026

On 28–29 September 2026, ENTER partners came together online for the workshop “Data in Action: From Sharing to Co-Creation”. Bringing together around 60 participants on Day 1 and 50 on Day 2, the event addressed how universities can share environmental data and transform it into practical, community-accessible knowledge. The two-day online training connected universities, environmental information and community needs.

Co-organised by the Center for Systems Innovation (CSI), the University of Bremen (UB), the Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU), and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), the workshop combined expert presentations with interactive consultation clinics:

  • Day 1: Open Science & Living Labs
Discussions focused on responsible data sharing and civic participation. Sessions featured insights on open science by Nomin Enkhtamir (University of Pécs), the Urban Nature Explorer by Attila Katona (CSI), and an overview of the ENTER Living Lab framework by Camille Fresto.
  • Day 2: From Shared Data to Practical Knowledge
Kanwal Nayan Singh (Climate Analytics) explored turning data into shared insights, accompanied by Living Lab case studies from Malaysia (Mohd Uzair Rusli, UMT) and India (Ruthi Veibiakkim). In the consultation clinic, partners examined core questions around data hosting, quality benchmarks, interoperability, and integrating local knowledge.

Participants highlighted a clear demand for shared data standards, targeted training, and clearer governance. As a next step, ENTER partners will update the existing Living Lab guidelines to integrate robust data governance, quality assurance, and community-oriented communication strategies.

ENTER GIS Workshop Series: First workshop on Environmental Open Data & Introduction to GIS

1 September 2026

On 29 August 2026 PU conducted the first Workshop of the ENTER GIS Workshop Series as an online, hands-on introductory training session on Environmental Open Data, GIS, and QGIS. The workshop was designed particularly for beginners and combined conceptual presentations with practical demonstrations and guided exercises.

The sessions progressed from the concepts of the environment and environmental data to spatial versus non-spatial data, maps and spatial analysis, the role of GIS, Environmental Open Data, major open-data sources, the basic GIS workflow, and practical environmental applications.

ENTER Project Advances Collaborative E-Learning Platform "CLP ENTERnet"

1 September 2026

On 28 August, the ENTER project brought together international partners and ICT experts to advance the development of CLP ENTERnet—a collaborative platform connecting higher education institutions to integrate environmental open data into academic curricula. The event featured two presentations followed by an open discussion addressing several operational and technical challenges, as well as a final summary:

  • Ensuring E-Learning Excellence: Veljo Kabin (EMU) delivered a keynote titled "What makes a high-quality e-course?", presenting a framework based on the ADDIE model to maintain consistent pedagogical standards. Highlighting the University of Tartu’s specialized quality-assessment tool, the session prompted a new initiative: creating an official "ENTER Quality Label" to ensure courses are fully interactive rather than static repositories.
  • Decentralized Architecture & Global Access: Dr. Yildiray Ogurol outlined the technical framework of CLP ENTERnet, which combines a centralized Discovery Hub with decentralized execution. This federated structure enables unified course discovery while allowing partner universities to maintain institutional autonomy, branding, and local LMS governance.

SKUAST-K Hosts 3-Day Training on Drone Technology for Natural Resource Management

4 August 2026

The Faculty of Forestry at SKUAST-K recently organized a three-day training programme on "Drone Technology and Data Capturing for Natural Resource Management" for undergraduate students, held in collaboration with the Erasmus+-funded ENTER project.

Aligned with the vision of Vice Chancellor Prof. N. A. Ganai to equip students with future-ready skills, the initiative combined theoretical insights with hands-on practice. In his inaugural address, Dean Prof. A. H. Mughal underscored drones as indispensable tools for precision forestry, disaster assessment, and environmental monitoring, urging students to leverage these competencies for emerging career opportunities.

Training programme coordinator Dr. Akhlaq Amin Wani (Head, Division of Natural Resource Management) led technical sessions covering flight planning, aerial data acquisition, and ecosystem mapping. The training culminated in live flight demonstrations and supervised hands-on flying practice, providing students with direct operational experience in modern drone applications.

Kick-Off Meeting in Bremen

16 February 2026

The ENTER project officially launched with a dynamic kick-off meeting from 11 to 13 February 2026 at the University of Bremen, bringing together 25 partners from EU (Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Germany), India and Malaysia to advance open, data-driven, and community-engaged environmental education.

Building on the success of past projects like MARE and URGENT, ENTER aims to co-create sustainable models for university-community collaboration in India and Malaysia — using open data, living labs, and microcredentials to tackle real-world environmental challenges.

Key Outcomes:

  • Common framework to be established for credit points and key terms (e.g., living labs, data co-production).
  • 5 living labs and 4 citizen science projects to be launched, focusing on biodiversity, coastal management, and community decision-making.
  • ENTERnet platform to be developed to host 70 ECTS of new degree and microcredential courses.
  • Equipment procurement underway to support data collection and ICT infrastructure.
  • Steering Committee & QA Board appointed; sustainability plan to be developed early.

The project will deliver 18 new degree courses, 9 microcredentials, and 20+ training events, empowering students, researchers, and communities with digital and data literacy skills.

Training Session: Explore proven methods for Living Labs & Co-Creation

16 February 2026

The ENTER kick-off Meeting in Bremen concluded on 13. February 2026 with a training session on participatory approaches, bringing together partners to explore proven methods for community engagement, data co-creation, and living labs.

Led by CNR, CSI, and the University of Bremen (ZMML), the session showcased best practices including:

  • Serious games and role-play simulations to foster negotiation and collective decision-making.
  • Citizen science and participatory GIS for community-driven data collection.
  • Digital tools for participatory scenario-building and “digital twin” planning.
  • OER-based learning platforms and micro-credential pathways for scalable education.

These tools were presented as ready-to-use “replication kits” — practical, adaptable resources to guide the development of 5 living labs and 4 citizen science projects in India and Malaysia.
